Abstract

The paper deals with digital terrain modelling techniques. A digital elevation model (DEM) of a territory is an ASCII or binary file that contains only spatial elevation data in a regular grid pattern in raster format. The DEM can be generated from a topographic map. The contour lines are digitised and transformed to the raster format. The contour lines altitudes are assigned to the raster points, resulting in a raster image of the modelled territory. Sampling the territory raster image, we obtain the DEM. The DEM allows 3D rendering of the territory and can be used for generation of a transportation network elevation model.
